ONE STEP FORWARD TWO STEPS BACK: Mutual Aid, "Mass Work" and Communist Strategy

In the year 2020, a coalition of left organizations in the Boston area came together to coordinate a sophisticated grocery distribution program to support their neighbors who were affected by the COVID 19 pandemic. Despite having a level of fundraising, a breadth of outreach, and an activation of volunteers that was remarkable for a mutual aid effort in the region, the political change affected by this campaign was effectively zero.

At this event, two organizers who participated in the campaign will be leading a discussion of One Step Forward, Two Steps Back: Mutual Aid, "Mass Work" and Communist Strategy, a criticism written by a local communist organization that struggled against the politics of the ‘’mutual aid” tendency that guided the coalition.
